Rogue Waves: A Linear Approximation

We elaborate on the phenomenon of Giant, Freak, or Rogue Waves in the ocean. A simplest possible explanation, in a linear approximation, is given. Some computer simulations are presented and related open problems are discussed. The talk has an introductory character and is suitable for a general public.
